4 hacks to start your day off right

Starting your day off right is a powerful tool to increase your quality of life. If you get of to a great start every day, it is almost impossible to not have a great day. On the other hand, if you start your day off in a bad mood chances are your day will be mediocre.

Most people believe that the kind of morning they have is outside their control. That outside circumstances set the tone for how they feel and respond and that some days are just bad days. This could not be further from the truth, everyone has the power to chose how their day will be. No external influence has the power to force you to feel or act in a certain way. You always have a choice on how you react to event around you.

While mental discipline is a key factor in controlling your emotions, there are also several things you can do to tip the odds in your favor. Here are some great hacks for starting off your day right.

Work out early
Regular exercise requires lots of self discipline, exercising first thing in the morning takes even more. The pay off is immense though. Not only does working out very early get your exercise time out of the way right away, it also is a great way to kick start your body and mind. Working out as the first thing you do after waking up (early) eliminates all forms of groggy morning head and sleepiness. Instead you will have clarity of mind and you'll also feel great physically.

Time your sleep
The number one enemy of starting the day off right is a blaring alarm clock. Getting yanked out of your sweet dreams is unpleasant and even stressful. Getting woken up in the middle of a heavy sleep cycle is guaranteed to trigger grumpiness and general hostility. Instead, time when you go to sleep so that your designated wake up time will be during a light sleep cycle.

The average sleep cycle lasts 90 minutes, which means you should time when you have to wake up in 90 minute intervals from when you fall asleep. If you time this right you will wake up from a light sleep phase. Waking up in a light sleep phase means you wake up rested and alert and ready to face the day.

Meditation is a great tool for eliminating stress and slowing down the pace of your life. It also happens to be that the very best time to meditate is right after you wake up in the morning.

After a full nights sleep the mind is alert and refreshed which is the perfect state for a successful meditation session. This way you won't fall asleep while clearing your mind and you will have the sharpness of mind required to focus on the task of meditating.

Starting the day of with 15 - 30 minutes of meditation and you will meet the world with a razor sharp and balanced mind.

Gratitude session
One of my favorite daily rituals is a gratitude session. It is very easy to do yet very rewarding. A gratitude session means to go through the many things in your life you are grateful for. Spend a little time on each thing that comes to your mind and make the effort to not just think that you are grateful, but to also feel the feeling of gratitude.

This exercise is so easy that it can be done anywhere. While having breakfast, or on your way to work, or any time you are doing a routine task. The power of feeling grateful is profound. It centers your priorities and always leads to a feeling of contentment and happiness. I find it impossible to have a bad morning if I start the day off by counting my many blessings.
