How kefir can make you happy

Kefir has long had a reputation of promoting longevity and good health. The name itself comes from the Turkish word for 'good feeling'. Kefir originated in the North Caucasus. It is said that people in this region regularly live to be a hundred years old.

Kefir's health reputation has just recently started to gain some attention in the West. As kefir gains more mainstream exposure, research is starting to substantiate the claimed health benefits. Probiotics has already been shown to have a beneficial effect on stomach health. The importance of of a healthy gut flora is getting linked to more and more health conditions.

The list of kefir benefits keeps growing. Earlier this year researchers found that kefir extract suppresses the growth of breast cancer cells. Now new research shows that kefir could even make you happier.

It's been known for a long time that drinking kefir can regulate an upset stomach. Digestive issues caused by stress and anxiety can be relieved by consuming probiotics. Now researchers say that probiotics don't just relieve symptoms of anxiety, it can actually reduce stress and anxiety outright.

The research showed that mice fed one of the strains of bacteria found in kefir had just half the amount of stress hormones as the control group. The results indicate that probiotics can affect brain chemistry in a similar way to how anti-anxiety medication works. 

I don't know about you, but to me I'd rather fight off a depression with kefir than medication
